Nero's Grille
About This Spot
Stepping into Nero’s Grille feels like arriving at a thoughtfully curated neighborhood gem that comfortably balances warmth and sophistication. Situated in the heart of Livingston, this spot quietly invites you to slow down, settle in, and savor the moment—whether you're here for an intimate dinner, a lively catch-up with friends, or a relaxed drink at the bar.
The atmosphere effortlessly shifts depending on where you choose to be. The dining room welcomes you with an inviting glow through large windows, a space that manages to feel both elegant and unhurried. It’s the kind of room where conversations flow gently beneath subtle lighting, and the hum of attentive servers weaving through the tables adds a comforting rhythm to the evening. Over in the bar, the mood softens and deepens—a cozier nook to sip on a perfectly balanced Negroni or a fresh Margarita, accompanied by the satisfying clink of glasses and easy banter.
What makes Nero’s Grille truly stand out is the way its menu feels like an unfolding story rather than a checklist. There’s a sense of craft and care in each plate—from the richly seared steaks that promise a buttery tenderness to the lighter, vibrant notes found in thoughtfully composed salads and seafood dishes. Small details like warm house-made chips with a hint of spice or creamed spinach that feels indulgently familiar add depth to the experience without shouting for attention.
The kitchen’s blend of Italian and American influences creates a comforting yet exciting culinary harmony. It’s the kind of place where you might start with a clam-studded linguini or a fresh lobster roll, and find yourself salivating over caramel-drizzled zeppoles or a classic New York-style cheesecake to finish. This is a restaurant that holds space for both celebration and everyday meals, where the pace encourages savoring rather than rushing.
What lingers most after a visit to Nero’s Grille is the genuine ease of the entire experience. The staff’s warmth and attentiveness weave quietly through the evening, making you feel like a welcomed guest rather than just another reservation. It’s a place where occasions feel thoughtfully marked without pretense, and late-night moments at the bar hold their own simple charm.
For those who know it well or the curious newcomer, Nero’s Grille offers a familiar kind of comfort: a meeting place of good flavors, genuine smiles, and a pace that lets the night unfold just right.

Dined here for valentine's day dinner. Food was good. The non fat yogurt with honey and berries was not only beautiful but tasty too.

Went with a couple friends and got in right before it was SUPER busy. Staff was very nice and the food was delicious. Short rib potato pancakes were amazing. Also had the brownie Sunday and it was really good as well. We came after work and felt under dressed but honestly no one made a big deal of it.

We’ve been going here for the past 5 years & more so over COVID restrictions. The atmosphere is perfect, with many options. You can sit in the open dining room where it’s classy, romantic, inviting with large windows that let just the right amount of light in. Or you can be in the bar area where the seating is cozy, a little darker & warmer. The bar traffic has never bothered us here. You can even sit outside which is also cozy with beautiful flowering trees & trellises. And the outside area was even extended during COVID & was perfectly managed & convenient. This place is huge but still warm. Food is delicious. We have never been disappointed. Drinks are delicious also & just the right amount of alcohol for your money. Janine the owner is a joy! She is always delightful & engaging & makes her way to every table. She is part of the experience of going to Nero’s. This place is also perfect for families with young children. See it all the time whether it’s lunch or dinner. All ages frequent here from the young men & women to the mature & well lived. It’s one of our favorite restaurants anywhere in NJ.

To think that I’ve lived one mile south and one mile west of this legendary establishment for nearly one half of a century of my life. I’ve even known the owners and a great percentage of all the patrons. And tonight was My first time being a guest. Truth be told, the food and service were exemplary. The cherrystone clam was so good I may have to switch back from littlenecks. Maybe the way to go is to drop in for a few clams and a nice lager
